BR-6: seller name missing
The invoice does not state the seller name (BT-27). The issuing party's legal name is a mandatory EN 16931 field in every format.
Last updated: 2026-07-07
Affected field
BT-27 Seller name / cac:AccountingSupplierParty/cac:Party/cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName (UBL) / ram:SellerTradeParty/ram:Name (CII)
Cause
In UBL the name must sit in cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName — a name placed only in cac:PartyName/cbc:Name (trading name, BT-28) does not satisfy BT-27. In CII, ram:SellerTradeParty/ram:Name is empty or absent.
Fix
UBL: put the registered legal name in the seller's cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName. CII: fill ram:Name directly under ram:SellerTradeParty. The trading name (BT-28) is optional and does not replace BT-27.

Frequently asked questions
I do have a name in PartyName — why the error?▼
cac:PartyName/cbc:Name maps to the seller trading name (BT-28), an optional field. The seller name (BT-27) that BR-6 checks lives in cac:PartyLegalEntity/cbc:RegistrationName.
Which name should I use — trading name or legal name?▼
BT-27 expects the full legal name as registered. A trading name can additionally be supplied in BT-28, but it is optional.
