Open a CII invoice

UN/CEFACT CII (Cross Industry Invoice) is the XML syntax used by XRechnung, Factur-X, and ZUGFeRD. If your XML file uses CII syntax, our viewer handles it automatically alongside UBL invoices.

What is UN/CEFACT CII?

UN/CEFACT CII D16B is one of the two XML syntaxes allowed by the EN 16931 European e-invoice standard (the other being UBL 2.1). CII is used by XRechnung (pure XML), Factur-X (embedded in PDF), and ZUGFeRD (embedded in PDF). Our viewer auto-detects CII and UBL files.

Who sends it?

CII invoices are generated by accounting software across Europe, particularly in Germany and France. XRechnung and Factur-X/ZUGFeRD all use CII syntax.

Mandate context

CII is one of the accepted syntaxes for e-invoices under the European EN 16931 standard. It is used in Germany (XRechnung), France (Factur-X), and cross-border EU trade.

What is the difference between CII and UBL?

Both are XML syntaxes for e-invoices under EN 16931. CII (UN/CEFACT) is used by XRechnung, Factur-X, and ZUGFeRD. UBL 2.1 is used by Peppol BIS 3.0 and is common in the Netherlands and Belgium. Our viewer supports both.
